Allegro Strings

Allegro Strings

The Allegro Strings is a string ensemble for young players who have not reached the skill level necessary for membership in the Youth Symphony. The group is led by Matthew Polson, and rehearses for an hour and a half on Sunday afternoons from September to May.

Membership and Fees

The Allegro Strings is open to high school aged and younger musicians from Jackson and the surrounding area, although generally the members are in elementary or middle school. Instruments in the ensemble include violin, viola, cello, and string bass. There is no formal audition for membership in the Allegro Strings, but prospective new members will be evaluated by the conductor for playing skill and music reading ability. The yearly membership fee for the Allegro Strings is $90. Need based scholarship assistance up to 50% of the fee is available. For families with more than one member in the orchestra, the fee is $45 for each member after the first.

Rehearsals and Performances

Rehearsals are held each Sunday afternoon from 3 to 4:30 PM in the JSO Orchestral Hall at 215 W. Michigan Ave. in downtown Jackson. Our concert performances are on Sunday afternoons, with the Allegro Strings generally playing at the concerts in December and May. Performances take place in such quality venues as the Western Performing Arts Center and The First United Methodist Church. Admission to our concerts is free.
